School sciences of Education
My name is Oscar Palacios. I have been an
English and science teacher for several years. As a teacher, I’ve had divergent
overviews about teaching according to the stage. For instance, in the
beginning, I thought the classroom management must have been strict making it
more efficient, then as the years went by, I realized that thing is not true at
all. I discovered students need to understand the reasons to do something in
some ways and guide them to reflect on their behaviors and interest is the best
way to encourage them into Education. I found out they want to have an active
role during the lessons, and they have prior knowledge and belief that need to
be respected and beard in mind.
Secondly, teaching speaking skills is not
an easy task at all. The learners have individual abilities, and some do not
feel trust in speaking in a group. We, teachers, have some tools and resources
to help them to take out of this state. The first one is to model the lessons
to give guides and more trust to participate in a group. The second provides
pieces of advice that they can do for themselves at home and self-monitoring
their progress.
Thirdly, the experience of teaching in
online environments was so hard for me at the beginning. As a result, the
planning spent more time than I would have thought. Later on, I discovered
several web conferencing tools that were completely useful, some pages, how to
use ppt in the lessons to present information or playing a game, even the power
tool of collaborative work to share ideas and allow students to interact among
them.
Finally, I have the following principles in
my online speaking sessions. Every single student has the opportunity to
participate. The students need to activate their prior knowledge first. This
online space has designed to make mistakes rather than to avoid them. These
sessions are inspired by their interests. Learners can see their teacher as one
who has weaknesses and strengths and make mistakes like them too.
